The real meaning of Jesus words on the Cross
We must remember that Jesus cried out in the Hebrew tongue and not in the Greek, as the soldiers mocked him and said that he was calling Eli the prophet
Mat 27:46-47 And about the ninth hour Jesus
cried with a loud voice, saying, Eli, Eli, lama
sabachthani? that is to say, My God, my God, why hast thou forsaken me? Some
of them that stood there, when they heard that,
said, This man calleth for Elias.
Now did Jesus actually
cry out my God My God why hast thou forsaken me?
Cross reference this with Psalm 22 v1
Psa 22:1 .... My God,(Eli) H410 my God,(Eli)H410
why (meh)H4100 hast thou forsaken
(awzab) H5800 me? ...
H410 (My GOD) אל
'êl ale
Shortened
from H352; strength; as
adjective mighty; especially the Almighty (but used also of any deity):
- God (god), X goodly, X great, idol, might (-y one), power, strong. Compare
names in “-el.”
H4100 מה מ־
מ־ מה מה (WHY)
mâh mah mâ ma meh maw, mah, maw, mah, meh
A
primitive particle; properly interrogitive what? (including how?,
why? and when?); but also exclamations like what!
(including how!), or indefinitely what (including whatever,
and even relatively that which); often used with prefixes in
various adverbial or conjugational sneses: - how (long, oft, [-soever]), [no-]
thing, what (end, good, purpose, thing), whereby (-fore, -in, -to, -with),
(for) why.
H5800 (FORSAKEN) עזב
‛âzab aw-zab'
A
primitive root; to loosen, that is, relinquish, permit,
etc.: - commit self, fail, forsake, fortify, help, leave (destitute, off),
refuse, X surely.
Now if Jesus had indeed cried out My God My God why hast Thou forsaken Me, He would have said like King David said in Psalm 22
ELI ELI MEH AW-ZAB
But Jesus words was recorded as
Eli, Eli, lama zebachthani
Interpreted this would
mean
MY GOD, MY GOD THE SACRIFICE IS COMPLETE
The Hebrew word for sacrifice is
H2077 (Sacrifice) זבח
Zebach zeh'-bakh
From H2076; properly a slaughter, that is, the
flesh of an animal; by implication a sacrifice (the victim or the
act): - offer (-ing), sacrifice.
